Classes

At Yusuian, there are weekly classes in Chado where students can learn the fundamental principles of traditional Japanese tea ceremony and practice Temae. A Chado class is not a one-time experience; it's ongoing for years, sometimes a lifetime.

Fundamental Principles

Since its inception over 400 years ago, the Urasenke School of Tea has stood firmly on the fundamental principles of (和敬清寂), or:

Wa (Harmony)

Kei (Respect)

Sei (Purity)

Jaku (Tranquility)

These principals were taught by the founder of Chado, Sen no Rikyu.

Attire

Wearing a kimono is preferable, or other comfortable attire, with white socks. No jeans or short skirts are allowed. Please remove jewelry and watches. Abstain from wearing strong perfume. Please tie up/back long hair.
